New Toogoom Footpath Project to Improve Safety and Local Access

    Location: Kingfisher Parade, Toogoom

Residents of Toogoom will soon enjoy a safer, more convenient way to move around their community, with the construction of a new concrete footpath set to begin along Kingfisher Parade.

The project will deliver a 1.3-metre-wide footpath running between Morris Road and Sea Beach Way, creating an important connection between existing pathways and providing improved access to the local bus stop.

Fraser Coast Regional Councillor Michelle Govers said the upgrade would make a real difference to residents’ daily lives.

“We know how valuable footpaths are for communities – they help people stay active, make it easier to run errands, and provide a safe way to catch up with friends and neighbours,” Cr Govers said.

“This new section along Kingfisher Parade will be especially beneficial for those walking to the bus stop or simply enjoying Toogoom’s natural surrounds. It’s about more than just concrete; it’s about improving liveability and connectivity for the community.”

The Kingfisher Parade footpath will also help complete a “missing link” in Toogoom’s growing pedestrian network. Once finished, residents and visitors will be able to walk continuously from the Toogoom boat ramp right through to the local convenience store, making the area more accessible for both recreation and everyday needs.

    What the works involve

    The construction project will include:

    • Installation of new kerb ramps to improve accessibility for prams, wheelchairs, and mobility scooters.
    • Reconstruction of sections of driveways where necessary to accommodate the new path.
    • Removal of selected trees where required for safe installation, followed by re-turfing of disturbed areas to restore the local environment.
    • Implementation of standard traffic and pedestrian management measures to keep residents safe throughout the works.

    Construction timeline

Work is scheduled to begin on 11 August 2025, with completion expected by the end of September 2025, subject to weather conditions. During this time, residents may notice temporary traffic controls and some construction activity along Kingfisher Parade, but access to homes will be maintained wherever possible.

Cr Govers said Council appreciates the community’s patience while the works are carried out.

“These short-term disruptions will deliver long-term benefits, giving Toogoom a safer and more connected network of footpaths. It’s an investment in our community’s wellbeing and future.”

The new Kingfisher Parade footpath is part of Fraser Coast Regional Council’s broader program to improve pedestrian safety, encourage active lifestyles, and ensure neighbourhoods are well-connected.
