In April 2027, Fraser Coast VIEW Club will be celebrating their 20th Birthday. It all began when five ladies, who volunteered at The Blood Bank (now Life Blood), were chatting. A VIEW Club already existed in Hervey Bay, but one of the ladies, Judy, mooted the idea of forming a VIEW Club for outer areas North and West of Hervey Bay. After explaining what VIEW was about, the ladies were asked to distribute information in their areas of residence, which included Dundowran, Craignish, Toogoom, Takura, Howard, Torbanlea and Burrum Heads.
In November 2006, twenty ladies met in Judy’s garden for a coffee morning Interest meeting. By February 2007, a lunch meeting was held at Goodies Restaurant, Toogoom , and a formation meeting in February confirmed a VIEW Club would be established.
In April, an Inaugural meeting was held at Hervey Bay RSL when Fraser Coast VIEW Club was officially launched. The VIEW National Vice- President, Sheba Brown and Regional Executive Officers welcomed the new Club, and presented the newly elected committee with their badges of office, and welcomed approximately fifty new members to VIEW. It was realised that Goodies was not big enough for future meetings, and Toogoom Hall became our regular monthly meeting venue. “Mick’s Spit” was engaged as the caterer, and many happy meetings were held at Toogoom until we relocated to the Craignish Hotel in September 2011.
As our membership increased, we looked for larger premises and from February 2013, our meetings were held at the Clubhouse, Hervey Bay Golf Club, Pialba. Looking for a venue whilst the Clubhouse built a new convention centre in the early 2020s, we were lucky to be accommodated at the Kondari Hotel in Urangan where we still meet on the 1st Thursday of each month from 11 am – 2pm.
‘WOMEN CAN DO ANYTHING’ and, with our fund-raising efforts, we are shaping the lives of children living with disadvantage by supporting their educational needs through The Smith Family’s ‘Learning for Life programs’. VIEW Clubs throughout Australia support 1,850+ students and this number is continually increasing.
